Why the name Plum Pointe to bring our vision to life?

There are three sources of inspiration for our name:

In Rhode Island, Plum Beach Lighthouse survived one of the most devastating hurricanes experienced in RI, in 1938. The storm was powerful enough to destroy entire beach communities and wash away nearby lighthouses: Plum Light withheld, survived and protected those who took shelter inside. This lighthouse has not only shone through the fog to guide those in Narragansett Bay, but it has proven to outlast those around it in doing so. This light is a symbol that engineering and analytics are crucial in the ability to withstand time. This is true both in the design of a financial plan as well as in architectural structures.

Second, the symbolism of the plum, and in particular the plum blossom, holds great meaning.  While still in the grip of winter, before the snow has melted away, the plum tree blossoms.  It is a show of both strength and hope.  Winter's harsh, unforgiving cold is present everywhere, the landscape still barren in dormancy.  The plum tree forges ahead, blossoming in the face of danger, intrepid in charting its course forward, reminding us that spring is eternal, that, no matter the danger, there is always a path forward, always a reason to hope.  Each plum blossom has five petals representing virtue, prosperity, endurance, longevity and health. These five virtues frame us at every client engagement.

Finally, Plum Pointe can trace its roots to a very modest home on a modest street named Plum.  The street was in a small, quiet town in Mid-America, where everyone knows everyone else by name: business is transacted by handshakes, the community thrives by putting the other fella first, “enlightened entrepreneurialism” one might call it, and integrity and personal reputation take a lifetime to build and a moment to lose and are all that matter.  The firm has a global view, transacts business in some of the largest and busiest cities in the world, but holds such small town values dear.  We never forget our roots.  Where you came from matters and provides the foundation propelling you to where you are going.

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

I see myself as a Family Wealth Doctor and a Fiduciary harnessing the freedom of being an entrepreneur with a platform to push boundaries and find new ways to connect with clients.

After earning a degree from the University of Michigan to pursue a career in medicine, I volunteered with doctors and worked as a scientist at a VC-funded biotech startup.  The realization that business could change the world resonated within me and changed my path.  I aided the startup of a chemical inventory management company, founded a residential development company, and consulted on a farm-to-table concept before the “farm-to-table” movement was mainstream.  My invaluable experiences as an entrepreneur, leveraging the scientific method to make decisions, and wanting to solve problems for people led me to Morgan Stanley where I performed significant research to build a new wealth management delivery model.  My evaluation of what clients want from these models and how these models should be evolving was profoundly influential.  I earned my CFP® and spent the next 7 years working on cross-functional teams at BNY Mellon, constantly evaluating methods and models, every day questioning and challenging the "old way," seeking optimization and efficiencies.  Here I further developed my ability to evaluate needs and effect change by responding to our CEO's idea challenge and being selected to develop and implement that idea across the organization.  Throughout my successes, I realized the best way to achieve client value is to develop a firm that can evolve and re-engineer the wealth management business, harnessing the components of this powerful platform for the sole benefit of clients.  This is the genesis of Plum Pointe.
